Understanding Iran

This is an official Mike analogy.

Let’s say that you, me, and Hitler are in the same enclosed room.

In the center of the room is a Colt 45.

You want to pick up the gun and shoot Hitler.

Everybody watching wants you to shoot him.

He deserves it. He should be shot.

You pick up the gun. You pull the slide back. Safeties are off.

I applaud what you are about to do.

There’s only one problem.

I happen to know that the gun isn’t loaded.

Iran. If you have ever read history and understand it. It’s like that.

Seeing Green

I simply have to address the issue of the green Twitter icons before my head simply explodes.

For those of you stuck in a cave, Twitter users started to tint their icons/avatars green to show their solidarity with the Iranian people and their situation. Noble. Maybe. Senseless. Definitely.

It would be like those “I support the troops” ribbons you might own. When asked what folks actually did to support the troops the classic response was that they simply bought the ribbon. You didn’t support the troops by buying the ribbon you supported the person who “sold” it to you and you get to feel good about yourself in the process.

That’s a liberal trait. Doing something just because it feels good. What does that accomplish in the grand scheme of things? Well, YOU feel good. That’s about it. Liberals need to feel good because they are just so damn miserable anyway.

We’d all like to think that the social networks we belong to are shared and used by everyone. Truth is. They aren’t. If you turn your icon green on Twitter, who is going to notice? Other users on Twitter? It might get reported on the news. So what?

Because the Twitter users got Twitter to change their maintenance time all of the sudden we’ve tried to spread this “amazing new ability” to other things. Now we think we can change reality outside of Twitter and obviously we can’t. Changing things “inside” of a network is just that. It’s inside the network.

If a tree falls in the woods, does anyone hear it?

Has the fact that you’ve changed your icon amounted to anything? Has it knocked out a terrorist training camp or freed anyone or prevented a student protester from being shot or sent in radios? How many “real” Iranians have Twitter? How many have the internet for that matter?

Back in the 1960s when people wanted to raise awareness they took to the streets, burned flags, burned bras, held sit-ins, etc.

At least they did something more tangible than simply turning their picture into a nice shade of puke green. The scary part of this sad story is not so much the green icons as much as it shows how willing people are to blindly follow what someone else does.

That should scare everybody.

Man Attacked: Sandwich Stolen

A funny story. True apparently.

From Fox23

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Oklahoma City police say a man told officers he was attacked for his bologna and cheese sandwich.

Officers say 24-year-old Roger Hamilton told them he was sitting on a bus station bench, about to put mayonnaise on his sandwich when another man began staring at him.

Hamilton says the man then punched him in the mouth and grabbed his sandwich and left.

Police say Hamilton has a swollen lip and his face was covered in blood.

The sandwich was valued at 76 cents.

I Want A Divorce!

This was sent to me by a good friend of mine. Thanks Rich!

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up this country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell(You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We’ll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and rednecks. We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters.

When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security.

We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We’ll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volkswagon you can find..

We’ll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute Imagine, I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We’ll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we’ll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall
Law Student and an American

P.S. Also, please take Barbara Streisand & Jane Fonda with you.

Contact Information

For anyone who knows me, I hate the telephone in any form.

The absolute BEST way to communicate with me is through email.

mike (at) stuckatmydesk (dot) com

I’m not even sure where my cell phone is half the time and I really don’t give out my land line number. That number is for studio business. Yes. I hate having to talk on that one too.

I am working 2 full time jobs right now.

I’m a tad bit busy.

Thanks for NOT calling me.

Global Warming Kills 300,000 per year

In using much the same logic as this article, I have a new headline.

Stories about man-made global warming are killing about 500,000 per year.

I figure since they can just make up numbers then by damn, I can too.

Here’s some of my new statistics.

1. One in three will die from a disease that is directly related to global warming.

2. Birth rate is on the decline. Abortion? No. Global Warming. Yeah, it’s now killing our babies.

3. Global Warming is the reason why your drinking water tastes so funny.

4. Global Warming cost me the 9th grade spelling bee.

5. My podcast quality has been impacted by man-made global warming.

6. Why is it so hot? Global Warming.

7. Why is it so cold? Yep. Global Warming.

8. Global Warming is keeping me from reaching my potential as the number 2 man in a “Wildlife Style” barbershop quartet.

9. Global Warming kills at least 25,000 of my sperm per day!

10. Global Warming has killed Al Gore’s personality.

The Digital Voting Bust

This story caught my eye on Slashdot. It seems that voter turnout in a recent election dramatically dropped. To the tune of 83%.

From the original story

For the first time, Oahu voters had to use computers or the telephone to vote for their neighborhood board candidates and many people did not bother.
About 7,300 people voted this year, compared to 44,000 people who voted in the last neighborhood board race in 2007.

It begs the question as to whether or not this demonstrates some degree of voter fraud? Wouldn’t that be funny?

A Quick Note

*** Concerning the Brass Balls Radio website ***

We are doing some “behind the scenes” transitioning. Some of the show links will not work. This is only temporary. ALL effected links will be fixed by the end of the day.

Thanks for your patience.

Major Changes

Due to monetary concerns, I’ve been forced to cut shows from my server. That means 2 less shows than I was working on (in part). It was a lot of work for absolutely no return.

One of the shows was a personal show that I really liked with a catchy title and all of that.

The other show was taken over by a partner. The show wasn’t making any money and I wasn’t getting any financial help with domain name, server bills, or finishing off shows (artwork, mp3 tags, uploading, iTunes, etc.)

I have one show that actually makes enough money to pay for an announcer and cover some of the server costs we have. I’m keeping that show.

Cutting shows from your line up and your life is tough. Cutting friends hurts as well.

In the end, it all comes down to our bottom dollars.

Stuck In The Studio

Folks,

I haven’t really written anything thats of any use in quite some time. Reason? I’ve been on overload in the Radio Station and in the editing studio.

I have recently moved and of course, that means new place, new internet connection, trial and error of existing equipment, and so many other little details.

If I just worked both jobs there would be no time for me. No time to watch the season finale of CSI: Miami or head out to the new Star Trek movie.

I still believe in “producing” content rather then “consuming” it. I always like to listen to other podcasts to find out how the shows I produce stack up against my internet peers. The time for me to do so is seriously limited. Perhaps if I could listen to my iPod at my “day” job? Hmmmmm.

I have chosen to do the aforementioned things because Mike needs a little downtime. I need time to sit down and watch a flick and enjoy a beverage.

Did I mention at least 12 miles a day of “mountain biking?”

In all of this go go go I have still found some time to be listening to the 5th book in David Weber’s Honor Harrington series while I wait for his next release in the “Safehold” series.

Some recent audiobooks I’ve listened to are…

Hyperion
The Google Story
Run for Your Life
The Forever War
Anathem
Pandora’s Star
Meltdown
The Shack (continuously listening)

Now. I’d like to grab my soapbox and rant for a minute or two.

About what? You ask.

Science. Modern Science. If that is what you can truly call it.

I truly believe that in some parts, the scientific method is a dead art form. It seems my landlord and I are continuously arguing about the finer points of science. I consider myself a scientist as is he even though our political views are radically opposed.

I think every generation has said that they are living in the end times. I will not make that claim here. What I will say is that it needs to happen as soon as possible.

I remember when a scientific announcement of any kind was a large deal. We had a theory or a postulation that had to be proven or disproven before any scientific announcement was made. We call this the scientific method. It is the basis for most of our underlying scientific principles. Today, we see one conclusion one week and an entirely opposite one the next week.

Human arrogance has grown to a point where the science has become general babel. In the case of manmade global warming, a handfull of scientists who supposedly agree with backing from the U.N. have declared that man is killing the earth and must be stopped or slowed. That is unfortunate.

Scientists rarely agree on anything. They can’t even predict the weather and yet they want me to believe in something that has turned into a mere cult.

Every single day I see another story about how much global warming is a big load of crap. I hope this trend continues.

We need the planet killing asteroid. I welcome it. If it prevents the spread of this type of garbage then I’m all for it. I guess man made global warming would be a lot less of a problem if there simply wasn’t anyone around to enjoy it.

As a society, we have become too complacent, too arrogant, and incredibly stupid.

What’s next, they’ll tell us that people aren’t the problem but that guns are?

Oops. Yeah. Big. Asteroid. Now.

Rainy Wednesday

That describes the condition outside.

Just rain.

And lots of it.

And PA will still turn around and tell everyone that we are in a drought.

They do it every year.

It’s like tradition now or something.
